Seniors – are you looking for alternative workout options while gym memberships are still on pause because of the pandemic? How about some simple exercises you can do right from your own home? Read below and learn some of our favorites!
Stretch It Out
It’s usually a good idea to stretch before and after your workout. Stretching in general is very important! It limbers up your muscles and helps them to prepare for the various exercises you’ll be doing. If you want a great workout of just stretching, we suggest yoga! Yoga can help you improve your balance, strength, and coordination.
Lifting Light Weights
Light weights combined with high repetitions can help you tone up your muscles! All you need to get started on a good arm workout is a pair of 2-3 pound dumbbells. You can even use anything of a similar weight that you have around your home already!
Cardio and Aerobics
When you think of cardio and aerobics, you may think of walking or going for a jog. Those are forms of cardio, but you can also have fun with it and try new exercises! Dancing and jumping rope are also great aerobic exercises you can have fun with. All of these help to build up your endurance and stamina over time!
Calisthenics and Props
When it comes to bodyweight exercises, also known as calisthenics, things are a bit simpler. You often don’t need equipment for these kinds of workouts. But they can be challenging! So if you need extra support for squats or push-ups, grab a prop to help. For squats, you just need a chair. Stand in front of the chair, bend your knees, and lower yourself onto it. Then stand back up. Repeat the motion. For push-ups, find any section of a wall clear from décor or shelving. Stand a few feet away and place your hands flat on the wall. Lower yourself towards the wall, and then push away from it again to complete the movement.
